Barbecue Sauce

Barbecue Sauce ~ Adapted from Whole 30 Book


Sauté in sauce pan for 45 seconds – 1 minute:
1 tbsp clarified butter or coconut oil
6 clove garlic minced
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp paprika
½ tsp cayenne pepper
Pinch cloves

Add:
2 cup tomato sauce
2/3 cup unsweetened apple sauce
¼ cup cider vinegar
¼ cup coconut aminos ( or tamari/shoyu/soy sauce if you eat soy)
¼ cup dijon mustard
¼ cup regular mustard
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp hot pepper sauce
½ tsp black pepper

WHISK SAUCE well
SIMMER 30 MIN, stirring often

Add:
Red pepper flakes or more hot pepper sauce if you want it more spicy

Ketchup (up to ½ C if it is too spicy or strong and want it milder)

** We made pulled rabbit barbecue with this sauce and the rabbit I cooked most of the day in the crock pot, but it would also be excellent on pulled chicken.
