What we do for colds, coughs, and sore throats

It is cold season now and many people have asked me what I do for colds, coughs, and sore throats.  I am not a doctor, so I am not recommending you do the same things, I am just sharing what we do in our house.

For both colds and sore throats we:
- A tablespoon of elderberry syrup with orange juice once a day
- A tablespoon of fish oil with orange juice once a day
- Eat 2 oranges a day
- Vitamin C, garlic, and echinacea twice a day (for kids I have a chewable Vit C and make hummus with lots of garlic; I don't give the kids echinacea pills)
- Airborne 2-3 times a day (my family likes the Lemon/Lime flavor - I only give kids a part of a tablet)
- Drink E-immune system booster tea all day long (sometimes I add more stinging nettle, rose hips, and a tiny bit of burdock root*) or Herban-C tea
- B-complex vitamin
- Drinking LOTS of water, 1 glass of OJ, and get lots of sleep

For Cough:  Cough Tea works really well.  A friend of mine uses a mix of organic turmeric and raw honey for a bad cough.  About 3 to 1 ratio honey to turmeric, but I have not tried this.
For Sinus Pressure: I use Sinusalia by Boiron and some essential oils
For sore throats: sucking on a zinc lozenge and/or gargling with really salty water.  A warm tea with honey is always a soothing option.  For a really bad sore throat you can also add a little bit of Redmond Clay to the tea if you are not taking any other medications and take turmeric as a natural anti-inflammatory.

If you think your getting the flu:
Boiron Oscillococcinum for Flu-like Symptoms Pellets have definitely shortened cold/flu in our house.

~I get most of my vitamins from Puritan's Pride, and I try to make sure the ones I buy have no soy in them.

~*I buy most of my teas and things I add to teas from The Bulk Herb Store or Mountain Rose Herbs or Whole Foods and I try to make sure they are organic.
